Geomatics covers the science and technology of gathering different sources of geospatial data, which after storing, interpreting, analyzing, modelling and distributing, can be turned into useful geographic information. Geomatics involves the tools and techniques used in surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite navigation systems, geographical information systems and other earth-related disciplines.

The Investment Centre Division (TCI) promotes investment in agriculture and rural development in developing countries and countries in transition, assisting governments, international financing institutions (IFIs) and other development partners to achieve growth, poverty alleviation and food security.

Under the overall guidance of the Director, TCI, and the supervision of the Chief, Latin America, the Caribbean, East Asia and the Pacific Service, will provide technical advice and be responsible for building upon and diversifying the Service’s capacity in environmental planning and management.

In particular, will:
participate in, and eventually, lead multidisciplinary missions to assist governments in the identification and preparation of environmental
and Natural Resources Management (NRM) projects (or relevant project components of agricultural and/or rural development projects)
focusing on critical themes such as biodiversity conservation, soil conservation, climate change and integrated ecosystem management
(IEM);
establish and maintain close collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF); manage and promote the development of the
Division’s GEF project portfolio;
assess potential environmental impacts associated with investment operations in agriculture and rural development and propose
responsive mitigation measures in line with national environmental safe-guard policies and financing partners;
advise Service Chiefs on environmental issues associated with scheduled field missions, selection of consultants for technical assistance
projects, terms of reference and supervision of outputs; cooperate with other FAO Divisions in environmental related activities;
liaise and participate with respective counterparts in partner agencies in both relevant project and non-project related activities;
collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in decentralised offices in the formulation and delivery of capacity development programmes
aimed at strengthening environmental planning and management of capacity; and
prepare clear and concise reports in line with the requirements of governments and financing partners;
• perform other related duties as required
