Geomatics covers the science and technology of gathering different sources of geospatial data, which after storing, interpreting, analyzing, modelling and distributing, can be turned into useful geographic information. Geomatics involves the tools and techniques used in surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite navigation systems, geographical information systems and other earth-related disciplines.

Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing - special issue "Terrestrial 3D Modeling"

Contribution of the special issue on "Terrestrial 3D Modeling" on the Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

The Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (P&RS) is the official journal of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). The journal provides a channel of communication for scientists and professionals in all countries working in the many disciplines employing photogrammetry, remote sensing, spatial information systems, computer vision and other related fields.

According to the journal citations reports published by Thomson reuters, the actual impact factor for the P&RS journal is 2.308.

The theme issue seeks research as well as review contributions covering either specific aspects or the full processing pipeline for monitoring, recording, documentation and visualization of sites and objects using terrestrial data acquisition. The emphasis is on automated techniques, which are able to enhance or speed up traditional surveying techniques. Methods and approaches which are capable of handling the large data volume typical for today’s sensors are of particular interest. We also encourage submission of work that demonstrates the potential use of terrestrial models in areas such as facility management, engineering, urban management, museums and others.
Topics suitable for inclusion in the special issue are:

•    Sensor and data fusion
•    Integrated processing of point clouds, image and video
•    Automated 3D modeling pipelines
•    3D modeling of large and complex architectures
•    Benchmarking the quality of 3D models
•    Virtual reality applications
•    Multi-disciplinary applications

Papers must be original contributions, not previously published or submitted to other journals. Papers published or submitted for publication in conference proceedings may be considered, provided that they are considerably extended and improved. Substantive research and relevant-for-practice papers will be preferred.
