Geomatics covers the science and technology of gathering different sources of geospatial data, which after storing, interpreting, analyzing, modelling and distributing, can be turned into useful geographic information. Geomatics involves the tools and techniques used in surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite navigation systems, geographical information systems and other earth-related disciplines.

  The Geography Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona announces a call for one post-doctoral research position. This Department has been awarded with this Chancellor resource for the second time.


The Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) research group of the Department, GRUMETS, seeks a self-motivated postdoctoral researcher to undertake work in the areas of Remote Sensing and/or GIS theory, methodologies, and applications as well as in software development. The candidates must have expertise in one or more of the fields listed below; the successful candidate may be involved in one or more of the group research projects. The candidate will work in a 25 people multidisciplinary, highly motivated and productive team, composed by researchers and technicians coming from a rich diversity of backgrounds (geographers, biologists, environmental scientists, physicists, mathematicians, geodesists, scientific programmers, etc). So a high level of motivation, ability to solve challenging problems, and passion for research are expected. The candidate should have a good communication and writing skills. A good background on researching and publishing merits is a must (details below). An acceptation letter from the group (please contact) and an excellent research proposal explaining the benefits for the candidate and the benefits for the group are also required.
